About us

Susan’s Hope Foundation was created to honor the life, strength, and legacy of Susan Marie Thorpe of Worcester, MA — a loving mother, dedicated caregiver, and tireless fighter.

Susan was a survivor of skin cancer and bravely battled Polycythemia Rubra Vera for ten years until her passing on August 17, 2009. Despite her own health struggles, she lived with resilience and compassion, continuing to support others facing cancer — just as she had supported her own mother, who passed in 2000 from lung and stomach cancer.

Inspired by her strength, Susan became involved in Relay for Life, offering her time and heart to the cancer community. After her passing, The Susan Marie Thorpe Polycythemia Rubra Vera Cancer Foundation was created in her memory to continue that spirit of giving.

Years later, with the same mission in mind but a broader reach and renewed focus, the foundation was renamed Susan’s Hope Foundation — a name that reflects not just Susan’s story, but the hope we want to extend to every family impacted by cancer.

We exist to:

  • Support patients and caregivers affected by rare and chronic cancers

  • Offer emotional connection and practical resources

  • Honor Susan’s legacy by showing up for others the way she always did — with hope, love, and quiet strength

This foundation is not just about cancer. It’s about the kind of unbreakable hope that lives on when we carry the best parts of someone forward.
